What is Demand Driven Development?
Intalio Demand Driven Development program is your best opportunity to get from Intalio products the functionality you need most when you most need it. This page describes how it works and how to use it.
Intalio gives you complete visibility on the functionality you get from each new version of Intalio|BPMS in the Release Notes section. We also give you visibility on what our engineering resources are working on and that you will get in the next release on our Roadmap section. The Demand Driven Development section lists all the features that Intalio|BPMS might provide in the future, beyond our short term commitments as defined in the roadmap. Think of it as our long term roadmap.
But there is much more you can do with Intalio Demand Driven Development program.
1.Tell us what to do!
First, you are most welcome to submit new features we may not think about. Click the "Add New Feature" button in the main page (or click here) and fill the form to describe and submit your favorite feature. This is free. Any feature you submit automatically displays in the list and its state is "Submitted". The main page represents the state of each feature with an icon that is described at the bottom of the main page.
Intalio team reviews all new submitted features periodically and filter them as necessary. Intalio reserves the right to reject any proposal without justification, but will do its best at accepting any request that would make technically sense to provide within a BPMS. Accepted features enter the state "In Discussion".
At this stage, Intalio engages with interested users to refine the feature definition until it becomes stable enough and resolves any confusion. These discussions are supported by forums that you can access directly from the main page. The number between [ and ] tells you how many messages have already been posted for the corresponding feature. These forums share the same RSS feed as all our forums.
2.Impact our short-term roadmap
Whether you submit features or not, whether you participate in the forums or not, you may express how much you care about any feature listed in the Demand Driven Development section with your vote. Just click on the feature name from the main table, select a number from 1 (for features that in your opinion do not belong to a BPMS) to 5 (for features you would do anything to get right away) and click Vote. You can always change your vote later. The "Rate" column in the main table shows you the average votes for each features.
Voting is free. Your vote is important! When we need to define our next release, we review the rates on the Demand Driven Development page and consider the most popular ones to prioritize what should go in the next release. The most popular features are therefore likely to be delivered sooner than the others.
3.We estimate the effort
Once feature definitions become stable enough and properly scoped, discussions close and the feature enters the "Estimating" stage. At this stage, Intalio estimates the effort it would take to deliver the feature. Then we publish the estimate, both in time and cost, so that all interested users have visibility on the level of effort that is required to deliver it. when the estimate is published, the state is changed to "Out for Subscription".
4.Get it done!
After a feature has been scoped and its delivery effort estimated, you have two options: you can either wait until Intalio decides to consider it in its short-term roadmap, or you can make it happen right away. It is very simple: estimate how much you can afford to pay to get the feature you need. Then make a subscription. Your subscription may or may not equal to the estimated cost. Once the total subscriptions have reached the estimated cost, Intalio starts a new project. We dedicate new resources right away and commit to deliver the functionality within the estimated time frame.
Is Demand Driven Development free?
Accessing the Demand Driven Development program is free.
Submitting new features is free.
Voting for features is free.
Discussing features on the forums is free.
The only amount you may pay striclty equals to the subscriptions you accept to make in order to get the features you really want when you really need them.
What are the benefits of making subscriptions?
The immediate benefit of making subscriptions is to get functionality that is important to you before we would otherwise deliver it. But there is more.
First, all functionality that is delivered through the Demand Driven Development program becomes part of the core product and will therefore be maintained as such over time.
Most importantly, Intalio offers you a 50% credit on your total subscriptions towards the acquisition of Intalio|BPMS Enterprise Edition licenses. You only really pay for half the actual cost of development.
Intalio Demand Driven Development is your best investement. It saves you time. It saves you money.
