Microsoft Visio offers the ability to design BPMN diagrams.
This feature is about offering an import capability in Intalio|BPMS designer to import those diagrams to implement them fully.

Hi,

The idea of this feature is indeed to be able to import BPMN diagrams designed in Visio in Intalio|BPMS Designer.
This is not currently implemented and this feature has been requested by some users through the Demand Driven Development program.

If you think this feature is needed, I would recommend that you vote for it and add your comments. You can check the D3 charter

Thanks,

Arnaud

Importing Visio would be a good feature and would allow to use existing process descriptions. Go for it!

I dont know if the visio import by itself would add value.

A number of stencils have and are being written in visio to create BPMN diagrams, they contain the objects and the right BPMN attributes. With little skill it is possible to save these to a database or excel and if that is the case it can then be transformed into XPDL with relative ease.

I feel that it is a matter of time before a general Macro is created to do this.

So there is probably more value in ensuring that the Intalio designer remains Open by focusing attention on the ability to import XPDL which a number of vendors are supporting (8 of 12 now I think).

XPDL import would create a larger catchment Area for this open source solution and thereby increasing the chances of people actually giving the designer and server a try. They might use other less techie design interfaces such as Visio and Active Modeler, but could at least have the opportunity to use the Intalio Solution.
