what is BPM enabling? 2 Years, 3 Months ago Karma: 0
Technology links with business theory to define what is possible. Most of the productivity gains in the 90's came from new business processes. Technology was resposible for enabling these new processes. So what is BPM enabling? Survival is Optional!

I would like to thank the 28 people who took the time to look at this. I posted it to see if anyone would look. Believe it or not IT really is just an enabler of business processes. During the 80's IT was a solution in search of a problem. Fortunately IT was able to take manual processes and automate them. This is what made IT. Now IT has entered a phase where automation is just not enough. New ways of doing things are being created and hyped every day. Some succeed and many fail. The ones that succeed do so because they enable people to do things they could not do or do things they currently do better. They enable people.

This brings me to BPM and open source. What is BPM enabling? I would like to put an area to look into forward. How about Guerilla Marketing. First, it is been popular for decades. If you really take a close look at it, it is about managing every point of contact with a customer. This requires understanding the organizations Business Processes and tracing back impacts with key customer metrics. Second, Guerilla Marketing is about hundreds of tactics. Each tactic must be put in context of a Strategy and impact on Business Processes. Also, each tactic will require its own metrics and understanding on how it works. Also, each tactic has a life cycle. Old ones no longer work and new ones are constantly being created. BPM would have to constantly be changing to keep up with it.

It seems to me that Guerilla Marketing may be a prime candidate for BMP to enable. A collaboration of open source BPM and Guerilla Marketing people could lead to some great benefits for the small and medium sized businesses. Let me know what you think.
