Yes, it is possible to replace the UI-FW web app with your own. Most of the core functionality is implemented with API's that you can use to build your own workflow UI. Two services exist; one for security login and the other for things like getting a task list, completing a task, etc.

Being that this type of customization is outside what we support on the publicly available product, I don't have any examples that I can point you to (companies that have done this tend to keep the code to themselves). But I can tell you that I have done this myself on more than one occasion and I would say that it's not too difficult for an accomplished developer.

The problem with hand-coding your XForms today within Intalio is that the current designer tends to overwrite some of what you've done. The designer will not show any customized fonts, colors, etc. but they will show up when the form is deployed to the server. My suggestion would be to keep your changes in a separate file and include or copy-paste them just before deployment. You can also test the forms directly on the Orbeon Presentation server (which renders the XForm to AJAX).

In the long term, the XForms designer will continue to improve and eventually this will no longer be an issue.
